Brake Fluid Flush: labor quote guide
Typical labor time (approximate)
About 0.5 to 1.2 hours. Usually about 0.5 to 1.2 hours. Vehicles that need a scan tool to cycle the ABS pump, or that have seized bleeders, take longer.
Approximate only: a rough general range, not labor-guide data. Times vary widely by vehicle and condition. Check a labor guide for the exact vehicle. How we estimate
The quote buttons open the labor-quote calculator prefilled; "Start an estimate" adds a labor line to the estimate & invoice generator. Add your own rate, parts and tax.
What's involved
- Test the fluid (moisture or copper strips) and check the manufacturer's interval
- Remove old fluid from the reservoir and refill with the specified fluid type
- Bleed each wheel in the specified order until clean fluid comes out
- Bleed or cycle the ABS unit if required, top off, and check pedal feel
General outline only. Follow the service information for the specific vehicle.
What changes the time
- Seized or rounded bleeder screws
- ABS units that need a scan tool bleed routine
- Pressure vs vacuum vs manual bleeding
- Clutch hydraulics that share the reservoir
Related parts & common add-ons
- Bleeder screw replacement
- Clutch hydraulic bleed
- Brake hose if cracked
- Brake inspection

FAQ
How often should brake fluid be changed?
Follow the manufacturer's schedule. Many specify a time interval, often every 2 to 3 years, regardless of mileage.
Can I mix DOT 3 and DOT 4?
Use the type specified on the reservoir cap or in the owner's manual. DOT 5 silicone is not compatible with glycol fluids.
Is a reservoir suck-and-fill enough?
No. That only freshens the reservoir. A proper flush moves new fluid through every wheel circuit.
