Wheel Bearing / Hub Assembly Replacement: labor quote guide
Typical labor time (approximate)
About 1 to 3 hours. Roughly 1 to 3 hours per wheel. Bolt-on hub assemblies are quicker; press-in bearings need a press or puller and take longer.
Approximate only: a rough general range, not labor-guide data. Times vary widely by vehicle and condition. Check a labor guide for the exact vehicle. How we estimate
The quote buttons open the labor-quote calculator prefilled; "Start an estimate" adds a labor line to the estimate & invoice generator. Add your own rate, parts and tax.
What's involved
- Road test and lift to confirm which bearing is noisy or loose
- Remove the wheel, brake caliper, rotor and axle nut
- Unbolt the hub assembly, or press out the bearing on press-in designs
- Install, torque to spec, reconnect ABS sensor and road test
General outline only. Follow the service information for the specific vehicle.
What changes the time
- Bolt-on hubs vs press-in bearings
- Rusted hub bolts or seized hubs in the knuckle
- AWD or 4x4 front hubs
- Knuckle removal needed for press-in bearings
Related parts & common add-ons
- Axle nut
- ABS sensor or tone ring
- Brake service while it's apart
- Alignment if suspension parts were disturbed

FAQ
How do I confirm which bearing?
Road test for noise that changes with load in turns, check play with the wheel off the ground, and spin it by hand. A chassis ear helps.
Bolt-on or press-in?
It makes a big difference to time and tooling. Check the vehicle in service information before quoting.
ABS sensor?
Many hubs include the wheel-speed sensor or tone ring. Handle the connector carefully and clear codes after.
