Engine / Transmission Mount Replacement: labor quote guide

Typical labor time (approximate)

About 0.5 to 3 hours. About 0.5 to 3 hours per mount. Top-side mounts are quick; lower or rear mounts that need the engine supported and parts removed take longer.

Approximate only: a rough general range, not labor-guide data. Times vary widely by vehicle and condition. Check a labor guide for the exact vehicle. How we estimate

The quote buttons open the labor-quote calculator prefilled; "Start an estimate" adds a labor line to the estimate & invoice generator. Add your own rate, parts and tax.

What's involved

  1. Confirm the failed mount by watching engine movement under load (with a helper) and inspecting the rubber
  2. Support the engine or transmission
  3. Remove and replace the mount, torquing in the specified order
  4. Check for vibration and clunks on a road test

General outline only. Follow the service information for the specific vehicle.

FAQ

How do I confirm a bad mount?

With the brake held, gently shift between drive and reverse while a helper watches engine movement, and look for torn rubber or leaking fluid in hydraulic mounts.

Replace all the mounts?

Not necessarily. Replace the failed ones and recommend the others if they show wear.

Aftermarket or OE?

Mount quality varies widely and affects vibration. Many shops prefer OE or quality OE-equivalent mounts.
